Have you been salivating over these Taiwan posts as much as I have been?
I swear there’s amazing eats just around every corner and I haven’t even gotten to the family style dinners yet! We were
so amazingly lucky to have my gf’s uncle from Taiwan take us around town to his favorite local haunts.
This first spot, just a mere walking distance from our hotel in Taipei, featured family style dining with a
more modern take on traditional classics. Private rooms, your own personal staff, a girl can really get used to

On the Menu
We enjoyed everything from house-cured duck, to freshly plucked sea cucumbers, to prawns in lobster sauce, and my personal favorite: bubbling fish stew! While the entire meal was super flavorful and packed with punch in every bite, I felt I half-missed what Taiwanese cuisine was really about since the dinner reminded me of what I could get back home. Very Newport Seafood meets Duck House in a more modern Chinese setting.
So Uncle wanted us to taste the difference between modern vs. traditional Taiwanese cuisine and led us to this next
establishment below.
establishment below.
Apparently this restaurant is FAMED for traditional home-style eats. Every local Taiwanese resident dines here and by the time we were seated at just a little past 7pm, the entire place filled up within minutes on a weeknight.
Eat yo’ heart out hunnies! We’ve got sashimi, baby oysters, veggies, pork, crab, squid, fried fish, steamed prawns, softshell crabs, winter squash…oman I think after the 12th or 13th plate I almost fainted! Although I’m proud to admit that we honorably tapped out after the 18th course! lol
The deadliest Taiwan-made concoction ever!!! We call this liqueur “Gasolina” aka fire in the hole!!! One tiny little thumb-sized shot of this sucka and you are toast! Needless to say, these alkies finished the whole dang thing… 103 proof = over 50% alcohol y’all…yup, that’s my crew! They eat, they drink, they live to tell stories all night long, lol.
Thank you so much to Keri’s Uncle for two of the most memorable and amazing Taiwanese dinners!
We could NOT have fed ourselves any better Uncle!
谢谢- Xiè Xie Uncle!
That’s the last of it for Taipei, Taiwan guys!!! Join me ALL next week as we move it over to Thailand!!!
