When le hubs and I were discussing potential honeymoon destinations we broke it down with the following MUST HAVES in mind:
1. FOOD, particularly French, duh!
2. BEACH… Since we went during summer, I knew I wanted to relax and tan with a gorgeous view in mind. You guys know that I don’t prefer tropical vacations as much as I do city ones, so we definitely compromised to get a bit of both.
3. CULTURE. History, monuments, old world European anything and I’m on board y’all!
Alas we finalized our destinations and spent the first leg of our honeymoon on the fabulous French Riviera.
First stop: Nice!
Nice Travel Diary
Stay
Using my American Express SPG (Starwood Prefereed Guest) points, we stayed at Le Meridien Nice centrally located and within walking distance to Old Town/ Vieille Ville and right across the street from the infamous Promenade des Anglais beach. Luxury at its finest with our very own balcony overlooking the Cote d’Azur…
I mean, seriously guys, this was our daily view…
The Vibe
Morning runs on the boardwalk, afternoons exploring the old town and surrounding neighborhoods… Absolutely fell in lalalLOVE with all the candy colored buildings, so vibrant and fresh! A definite mirror image of what the locals are like. Full of LIFE y’all! We visited while Euro Cup was in full swing and since France took it all the way to the finals, the city was pulsating with such amazing energy and love for their home team! Vieille Nice Square hosted viewing parties at every single restaurant, bar, and pub. Chillin’ and cheerin’ with the locals was easily one of the highlights of our trip!
Don’t Miss
Make the ascent up Castle Hill for THE sickest panoramic views of the city and promenade
We probably logged in over 10 miles daily…Made le hubs walk ALL over town even though we rented a car! Lol
My #1 tip when traveling: MUST.EXPLORE.CITY.ON.FOOT!
How else will you get right in the middle of all the action?
Closing thoughts
The food was spectacular as every square inch of Nice was teeming with Michelin star chefs and their teeny tiny establishments. French, Spanish, Italian, Mediterranean, tons of sushi joints (although we didn’t visit any boooo), a melting pot of gastronomy I was over the moon with our million and one meal choices!
But more on that this week for Food Porn Friday | The Nice Edition. You won’t wanna miss the yummy eats!
Thanks for reading!
